Murals can create a powerful atmosphere. Through the illusion created by a well-executed mural, ceilings and walls no longer have boundaries. A perpetual garden mural of blue sky and blooming shrubs and plants, not limited by seasons and weather, can bring serenity, harmony and peace to the space allowing for holistic healing of those who walk through the lobby.  With lots of details to discover (i.e. birds, butterflies, dragonflies) one is drawn to linger, to take in the mural, to sit and think or meditate, to absorb the healing powers.  In lobbies or entryways of hospitals, medical care centers, hospice centers, cancer centers, dialysis centers, yoga studios, therapy centers, etc., the person is effected once they enter the space; they are “stopped in their tracks”.

In places frequented by children, there are opportunities to engage them through an inter-active “I Spy” sheet with thumbnails of all the objects to look for. For areas that are mainly for children, tactile murals can be created to have them interact through touching as well.

Why sky?

Aren’t we always looking for blue-sky days? It is the best way to “open up a room”. It will create the feeling of lifting the ceiling height, creating brightness, bringing the outside in and creating a spiritual and peaceful environment for relaxation and reflection.

Sharrison Studios has done mural paintings for commercial properties, supermarkets, retail stores, restaurants, hospitals, churches, schools and universities.  The murals have been done in numerous applications such as tile, foam-core board, canvas (which is glued to wall, for relocation), photographic collage or painted on walls. The designs have been of family and business history, local history and points of interest, landmarks, and community pride.  Topics feature retail departments, products, and customer appreciation.

Mural mediums include:

• Tile is frequently chosen for eating and preparation areas for its cleanable and durable nature. The tiles are painted and then high-fired for permanence of color and form. This makes the surface smooth and cleanable, approved by health departments.
• Foam-core board is lightweight for easy suspension for hanging or mounting. It is painted with acrylic paints for cleanability. Colors are bright and time withstanding. Foam-core board can be cut in shapes for a more unique and interesting design and layered to create a 3-dimensional effect. This also allows details or points of interest to be highlighted.
• Canvas is used in applications where there is the need to potentially relocate the mural or the area is difficult to reach for detail painting. Canvas also allows the mural design to be created in our studio then shipped to location for easy installation.
• Acrylic paint on walls is a durable, cleanable surface allowing for a mural traditional in style. Painting can be done while the business is in operation due to the lack of paint odor and to the paints' quick dry time. This has often created an interest on the part of the clientele drawing them back repeatedly to watch the progress and feel a part of the creation.
• Photographic collage is a compilation of photos and text that are applied to foam-core boards, which then are enhanced with line drawings. The panels are then cutout and layered. This format lends itself well to “hip” contemporary settings.
  

Sharon Harrison will help you develop a unique design created around your passions, your interests, your family, your pets, your hobbies, or your travel experiences. She will spend time interviewing you to develop a design together. Often through the interview process a different idea may come forth as the best idea for the mural. Sharon’s goal is to create a mural that reflects you and that you will love living with in your home.
